Exercise Snacking on the go
Exercise Snacks are those short, sharp exercises that you can do anywhere, anytime.
The purpose of exercise snacks is to get you moving more. As we age, we get more sedentary, and this is what makes us feel old. We have to keep moving and keep active. And doing small amounts of movement every day is better than doing one big session once a week.
It’s the small things that add up over time.
Some exercise snack ideas are:
The plank (my all time favourite exercise snack)
Intense breathing with your eyes closed
Squats
Walking (I like walking the dog)
Stretching
Push ups
Tricep dips
The list really is endless.
I have an Apple Watch and it buzzes me on the hour every day for 12 hours. It tells I need to move. So I do. However you don’t need a fancy watch. You can use your phone or kitchen timer to buzz you every hour during that day. That’s the signal to get up and MOVE. Or you can can incorporate a small exercise into your day, for example, as you're brushing your teeth, do some squats. As you're waiting for the kettle to boil, do some push ups. It's really quite easy to fit them into your day.
