Chip Free in 2023
Today I ate my last serve of hot chips* for at least a year
Tomorrow, my husband and I have decided to give up these delicious morsels (as well as potato crisps) in 2023. We’re calling this “Chip Free in ’23” and you’re welcome to join us.
For some background, whilst I generally eat very well, hot chips, and in particular crisps, are like my drug of choice, and once I start, I can’t stop until I've finished the entire serve. In fact, I've been known to single-handedly empty a big family size bag of crisps in one sitting. It’s little wonder that many of my favourite clothes are starting to feel uncomfortable. Elastic-waisted trousers have never been an option for me, and I don’t want to go down that road. As my daughters will attest, I have always banned tracksuit pants in public
It’s not that chips are that bad as a ‘sometimes food’, it’s the flow-on effect that leads to other bad food choices for me. It may be the same for you?
Rather than setting unsustainable goals, I’ll be focusing on giving up this single food group as the core of a sustainable plan.
Tomorrow is the start of new year, and I’m excited for the start of Chip Free in 23”
*My definition of hot chips - those fatty, deep fried things that you can get in a fish ‘n’ chip shop, or a pub, or a food truck. I am not giving up potatoes made at home (regardless of their shape 😊)
